How To Erase A Permanent Mistake Part II

Sat, 2011-03-05

So you have taken the first step and attempted the tried and true method of erasing permanent marker off your dry erase board using a standard dry erase marker.  Unfortunately, you still have some residual remnants that remind you to always look before you write.

No problem- we have another solution for you!  This one might take some elbow grease and a trip to your local convenience store (or at least a reminder on your bathroom mirror).  Have you guessed what it is yet?  Toothpaste of course.  It’s simple to get, and should work every time.

Items required:

  1. One tube of ordinary white toothpaste (not the whitening, tartar control, or the fancy breath-freshening blue stuff).

  2. One (preferably) unused toothbrush.

Just like using the dry erase marker, this process is simple:  Grab your toothbrush, put some toothpaste on it, and start scrubbing!  Some ink colors seem to be a little more resilient than others are, but after a few minutes and some hard work, your board should be free of any of your ‘permanent’ mistakes.  Don’t forget to rinse and repeat as necessary!

Why does this work?

Toothpaste has a mild abrasive that it uses to help clean your teeth.  This abrasive is mild enough that it does not affect the finish of any dry erase board.

Still have some stubborn ink that is not coming off your board? Don’t have a toothbrush or toothpaste handy?

Then it’s time to move to Step 3: The Last Resort.
